Shred-a-Thon Events

Protecting your personal information is an important part of community safety. That is why the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has long hosted Shred-a-Thon events to provide residents a safe, convenient way to dispose of sensitive personal documents. These events have been offered in Pima County for many years and are made possible with the support of community partners and the Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers.

Shred-a-Thon events are designed to help the public reduce the risk of identity theft by securely destroying personal paperwork that should not be thrown away in the regular trash. They are free events for county residents and usually operate in a drive-thru format for convenience.

What You Can Bring

Shred-a-Thon events are generally intended for personal paper documents only. Acceptable materials include paper documents that are loose, folded, stapled, or placed in envelopes. Documents are shredded on-site.

Examples may include:

  • old bank records
  • medical paperwork
  • tax documents
  • outdated financial records
  • other personal papers containing sensitive information

Items We Cannot Shred

Participants should always review event details before attending, but typically, items like videos, cassettes, CDs, DVDs, photographs, photo slides, or credit cards are not accepted. We also ask that you please remove any binder clips or other foreign objects from your documents so the shredding equipment isn’t damaged.

A Community Safety Service

Shred-a-Thon events do more than help people clean out old files. They serve an important public safety purpose by helping residents protect their identity and financial information. Event dates, times, and locations may vary throughout the year. Residents should check the latest announcements before attending, as events may be updated based on availability, weather, or capacity.
